We are pleased to announce two confirmed tutorials for StanCon 2026.
The first tutorial, “An introduction to applied Bayesian statistics with Stan,” will be taught by Mitzi Morris. This full-day tutorial introduces Bayesian data analysis with Stan, beginning with the foundations of Bayesian inference and workflow, and then surveying the wider Stan ecosystem, including interfaces from R and Python, diagnostics, posterior analysis, and model comparison. The tutorial also introduces BRMS and concludes with a worked multilevel modelling example implemented directly in Stan.
The second tutorial, “Bayesian model diagnostics: Workflows and software tools,” will be taught by Osvaldo Martin, Teemu Säilynoja, and Noa Kallioinen. This tutorial focuses on practical diagnostics within a modern Bayesian workflow, with hands-on work using software including posterior, bayesplot, priorsense, and ArviZ. Participants will explore convergence diagnostics, effective sample size, Pareto-(k), prior sensitivity checks, and visual predictive checks, with exercises available in both R and Python.
