Makevars file to try to solve weird errors and warnings

Hi,
I’ve been having issues with latest rstan version in CRAN (https://github.com/stan-dev/rstan/issues/853), then I installed the version from github, and things are a bit better, but I’m still seeing warnings, and weird errors (e.g., Object with null pointer in Rstudio).

After browsing around in the forum I see a lot of partially contradictory information about the .R/Makevars file. What should I have there? (I’m using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS)

Sorry, I’ve been out of the loop for a while. Someone may have a more concrete answer - what worked for me was to switch to Docker.

I agree that there’s a lot of conflicting information about the Makevars file. @bgoodri What’s the current recommendation for Makevars for Ubuntu users?
