Job posting — ML Scientist, probabilistic modeling for microbiome multi-omics (remote)

Hi all,

I’m hiring an ML Scientist at Gutz Technologies to develop probabilistic models for pediatric microbiome research. We’re part of Wellcome LEAP’s $50M FORM program, building diagnostic tools for autism using longitudinal multi-omics data across 17,000 children and 7+ international cohorts.

The methods work is genuinely hard: compositional time-series, causal inference from large observational cohorts, and VI methods that need to be accurate enough for clinical decision-making at these scales.

Strong probabilistic modeling background required. Biology is learnable.

I was the one who encouraged Jamie to post an ad here. Jamie was a postdoc here not too long ago, despite his having the CV of a senior professor.

I can vouch for him as one of the most stats savvy folks I’ve ever talked to in the broad area of genomics. I learned a lot working with him on a compositional analysis, and this was after I already considered myself an expert in the field. It was like the difference between learning the math of linear regression (takes a few minutes) and learning to use regression properly (takes a lifetime and the understanding of the problem you’re working on).

He also did a great job managing the large group effort papers on which we were collaborating. I also plan to be working with him on some of these topics going forward.
