Elections for Stan Governing Body 2026

We’re renewing the Stan Governing Body (SGB) with 2 seats up for grabs (I’m continuing my 2-year term). Current SGB members may still run, however they are not guaranteed to preserve their seats. As in previous years, we will use the Stan forum for nominations.

Please respond to this post to self-nominate for either a 1-year or 2-year term on SGB BEFORE MAY 18 (in two weeks). We encourage all nominees to briefly summarize their experiences with Stan and their goals for the SGB. Feel free to add links to any content you think is relevant. There is no requirement to be Stan developer. And if you know someone who you think would be a good fit for the SGB please let them know and encourage them to nominate themselves.

For other details about the election and links to information about the SGB see Stan Wiki: Stan Governing Body. For examples of past nominations, see the last year’s thread. You can also ask in this thread or send me a message to ask more about SGB.

Hello Stan community,

My name is Jelena Pantel, and I am a researcher studying the impacts of genetic variation and rapid evolution for community ecological dynamics. I am a Professor of Ecology at Université Marie et Louis Pasteur, in Besançon, France. I am writing to nominate myself as a member of the Stan Governing Body. I am a frequent Stan user, primarily working to fit empirical data to ODEs, and to estimate measurement and observation uncertainty in field and experimental data in community ecology. I also teach Introduction to Bayesian Statistics, and am accustomed to introducing new users to the basics of Stan.

My primary aims as a member of the SGB would be:

  • to contribute to the Stan community and development,
  • contribute resources for the (typical) gaps between field ecological data and fitted models,
  • and develop more resources (i.e. case studies) for new Stan users in ecology and evolution.

I look forward to an opportunity to give back to the resources available to users and contribute to the project that has been essential to my research.

Thanks for your consideration,

Jelena Pantel
