Cognitive (neuro) science StanConnect 2021

Hi, thanks all.
The abstracts are looking great, I’ll open the poll tomorrow morning.

The poll is open here.

Please vote!

Me again :)

See my proposal. By ditching the panel discussion we can have four 20-mins talks + 10 mins discussion. Given that the topics require some background explanation, IMHO this is the minimum time we’ll need to have coherent talks.

Notice that my proposed time is 5:00 pm CET/11:00 am EST, I think this is the most compatible given the location of the speakers.

I’m, of course, open to change the proposal, so feel free to suggest changes. (Until Monday when I’ll send it to Stan’s SGB).

By the way, congrats to @Gang, @Henrik_Singmann, @mike-lawrence, @jangoe that reached the top four :)
Please send me a DM with the missing info that’s required in the proposal ASAP, I’m assuming that you’re still willing to give a talk and prepare a notebook, otherwise please let me know!

Hi all,
The proposal has been approved!!!
But I also understood that November 26 is Thanksgiving and that it’ll be problematic for US people.
Doing it a week earlier works for me, would it be fine to have the session on Friday, November 19?

I need the approval of @Gang, @Henrik_Singmann, @mike-lawrence, @jangoe , but if someone else has good reasons to not have the session that day please tell me ASAP. (E.g. another conference)

(@mike-lawrence I still need your info and a confirmation from you.)

Just thought I’d bump this thread to see how everyone is doing with their prep and if anyone needs any help 🙂

I’m personally really excited as in the interim since submitting my abstract I’ve had the chance to doubly-verify my original observations, verify that an ad hoc solution wasn’t workable, and realize a much more elegant solution I think folks might find neat. Running validation tests of the latter this weekend 💪

Also, having spent some time this summer supervising a Google Summer of Code student working to add more variety to the models in posteriordb, I strongly encourage everyone to add any models derived from their work!

Hi!
Stanconnect’s day is coming! Just a friendly reminder about the notebooks, whenever they are ready I’ll add the links to the website.

Best,
Bruno

We haven’t talked about the order of the presentations, but is there someone against the pseudo-random order that we have in StanConnect 2021 - Cognitive Science and Neuroscience session - Stan for cognitive science?
The first talk would be at 11:15am by Gang Chen then, and every 30 mins each of the following talks.

Bruno

Oh, 3rd thing. I realized I never asked, but is it ok, if we record the talks?

Best,
Bruno

I’m fine with both recording and any order.

@Gang, @Henrik_Singmann, @jangoe. see above.

@bnicenboim I’m fine with any order as well as with talk recording. Thank you for all the organizing work!

Random order and recording is fine with us.

ehem, @jangoe?

And how is it going with the notebooks? The session is this Friday! :)
I’m really looking forward!

Hey, sorry for not reaching out. I was quite sick the last few weeks! Recording is fine. How can we provide the videos ?

Oh I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you’re fine now!
I meant recording the live presentations, but if you expect connectivity issues, you’re welcome to send me the the video of the presentation (using Dropbox, own cloud or whatever you want).
And BTW, I think at this point of the pandemic life, this goes without saying but, people, check your mic before the presentation. In many cases the built in mics of the laptops are not good enough.

Ok nice, that’s good for me!

Can you maybe explain who the notebooks should look like ? No need to discuss that here, if you could send me an email would be sufficient !

Thanks

Jan
