Your Stan Governing Body requests input and feedback on the Stan mission statement. I’ll throw a few out there that have come up before:
- Stan fits the hardest Bayesian models and extends the reach of Bayesian analysis.
- Stan is the programming language for for Bayesian analysis.
Personally I think 2) is a bit strong. We don’t want to be the unique Bayesian language, nor do we want to kill off efforts like PyMC3.
Also 2) implies that we seek out market share e.g. lots of users, where 1) doesn’t expect broad adoption at all or only among people fitting hard models.
