I am a (now retired) clinical nephrologist with special clinical and research interests in transplantation (kidney, islet, pancreas, liver, and lung), national health database analysis and epidemiology, and in clinical trial design, performance, and analysis. I am a self-trained statistician, generally regarded by my community to be competent, but always interested in learning more. I have done a fair amount of frequentist hierarchical repeated measures analysis. Frequentist methods are pretty good if all you are interested in is the main model statistics, but they get wobbly when one is interested in distribution of the individual case statistics. Also, informative bias due to drop out of "failed " patients is a major issue. Use of stan_nlme and stan_jm have been a great help to me in dealing with these issues.
